“Genre of the Month” /Monthly Book Projects

Each month will feature a different “Genre of the Month”.

Students are encouraged to read books from a variety of genres throughout the school year.

Your child will be required to read a book from each of the genres for the monthly book projects.

September	Realistic Fiction	A story using made- up characters that takes place in modern times	Cereal Box Book Project
October	Mystery	A suspenseful story about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story	Wanted Poster Project
November	Informational	All of the information is based on true fact and not made up	Bag of Chips Project
December	Historical Fiction	A story using made-up characters that takes place in a real time or setting from the past	Historical Figure Project
January	Biography	A story of a person’s life written by another person	Biography Book Project
February	Fantasy/Fairy Tale	A story including impossible elements, such as talking animals or magical powers	Fantasy/Fairy Tale Puppet Project
March	Poetry	Verse written to create a response of thought and feeling from the reader. It often uses rhythm and rhyme	Ancestor Poem Project
April	Science Fiction	A story that blends futuristic technology with scientific fact and fiction	Comic Strip Project
May	Genre of your choice		Newspaper Article Project
